Street Fighter X Tekken Preview

It’s Ryu versus Raven in Street Fighter X Tekken

Street Fighter X Tekken is the fighting game that fans of these historic franchises have been waiting for, as you finally pit Ryu against Kazuya or Nina against Chun Li as the Street Fighter and Tekken cast collide in spectacular style…
With a whole host of old favourites from the series, Street Fighter X Tekken is set to be one of 2012’s most popular games, as you finally pitch the true legends of the games against each other. Released May 11th in North America and May 14th in Europe, Capcom hope that the game will be well received by fans both young and old, with a careful mix of new gameplay and classic elements that have defined the series so far.

You choose two fighters from the Street Fighter and Tekken series, with both sets controlled by using the Street Fighter 6 button system. This doesn’t mean that the game is more Street Fighter than Tekken, as you’ll be able to do Tekken style combos similar to the old games.

One of the main features is the two game mechanics; the Gem system and Pandora mode, where players equip up to three gems for different boosts depending on the gems used. The gems are expected to be attack, defence, speed, vitality, assist and cross gauge, and with one fighter at 25% health they can be sacrificed to increase the health of the remaining character, a crucial boost in the fight to the death!

The tag-team nature of the game is heavily used here, with players able to switch midway through a combo and cross rush, meaning you can use one character to launch an opponent in the air and the other to continue the attack.
If you’re a fan of online play then you’ll be pleased with Street Fighter X Tekken, as you’ll be able to play in pairs, controlling a character each, as you face another pair of friends in an online four player battle. The game will be released on Playstation 3, Playstation Vita, Xbox 360 and PC.

Current confirmed characters from Street Fighter include Ryu, Ken, Guile, Abel, Chun-Li, Sagat and Zangief as well as Kazuya, Nina, King, Julia, Hwoarang, Raven and Xiaoyu from Tekken and many more besides.
