InFamous is a PS3 exclusive action game developed by Sucker Punch and released by Sony on the 29th May 2009. InFamous is a superhero sandbox action game that contains the perfect mix to make it the best in its genre. You play the character Cole who has just woken up from the coma he was left in. When Cole awakes, the city has gone crazy and three gangs are running riot killing people. Cole finds he has electrical superpowers – can you save the city?
Empire City is the open-environment where all of the action takes place. You can go absolutely anywhere and do more-a-less what you like. The gameplay is allowed to flow and thankfully there aren’t any annoying loading screens.
The fate of Empire City is in your hands, and you are very well equipped to regain peace in the out of control city. But will you become the super villain or the superhero? That’s your decision. You control Cole using a third-person view and the controls feel tight and responsive. Cole has access to an arsenal of electrical superpowers, which include Lightning Bolt, Shock Wave, Shock Grenade, Lighting Storm, Precision, Thunder Drop, Contact Powers, Bio Leech, Arc Restraint and Pulse Heal.
The Karma Meter ranks Coles Karma according to the morality of his actions. Taking out your enemies will move the meter into the Blue, execute the innocent and the meter will move into the Red. Your Karma Meter ranking activates your good and evil upgrades, adapting your powers accordingly. You will also gain experience points which will allow you to upgrade Cole’s powers. But don’t think that Cole is invulnerable; he couldn’t take a spray of bullets for instance.
The graphics and visual are absolutely awesome and deliver very well. Top notch character animations also complement this. Although there are various glitches found in the graphics which is disappointing. But generally you shouldn’t be disappointed.
InFamous will bring much joy to gamers who enjoy going around a gorgeously presented city whilst zapping people with an arsenal of super-power weapons. InFamous also comes with a very gripping storyline which helps to makes it one of the best games so far this year for PS3 fans. The game does have its frustrations and letdowns; no online mode, unable to get in vehicles and occasional graphical glitches. But this shouldn’t stop you from having a very amusing 30+ hours of gaming and well worth checking out.
