Seriously, who doesn’t think the Ice Age movies (and games) are entertaining and fun? In keeping in line with a number of other franchises who are intent to pelt us with video game movie tie-ins, we have Arctic Games; which of course is a direct spin-off of the film, Ice Age 4. The question is, is this game worth playing in-and-of itself? Luckily, the answer is yes! Arctic Games is a very engaging and colorful “party-style” title that’s perfect for people of all ages. You assume control of a character and participate in a number of events as part of a tournament to decide who will gain access to the fabled “secret treasure”. Additionally, both single player and tournament modes are available, as well as online play.
Visuals
In short, this game looks pretty good; at the very least, it captures the visuals of the movie franchise perfectly. All of your favorite familiar characters are on board for the games too. Smooth and stable framerates, interesting environments and nice cut-scenes round out what is a very graphically solid and animated game.
Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, Artic Games plays more or less like any other decent Party game you might pick up. The controls are well-thought out and the events (mini-games) themselves are actually appealing (and sometimes hilarious).
This title doesn’t really present gamers with anything new in terms of gameplay; instead, it builds upon the mechanics of similar games of the genre.
Verdict
First off, fans of the Ice Age movies (or games) will undoubtedly want to pick this one up. Likewise, there’s much fun to be had either with friends, online or solo. This is a game that’s suitable for children or adults; perhaps a perfect game for parents to use to connect with their kids. All in all, Arctic Games is a light-hearted affair that is suitable for some good clean fun.
