Chime Super Deluxe – Not Your Average Puzzle Game
If you’re looking for a refreshing, different type of game, Chime Super Deluxe may be the welcome change that you’re looking for. When its predecessor first came out, a lot of gamers were skeptical thinking it was just some musical version of Tetris and you really cannot compete with Tetris! However, big surprise to gamers, it was a totally different concept that went over so well that Zoe Mode took the original formula, put it on steroids and released a deluxe version.
Storyline
You won’t find much of a storyline in Chime Super Deluxe. Like most puzzle games, your goal is to clear each board to level up to the next one. Sounds easy, right? It would be if each level didn’t get significantly harder but your time decreases as well. This is a feature that was much needed since some players became so good in the original Chime that played infinitely which made rankings ridiculous to try to compete.
You basically combine and rotate irregular shapes on a board and you actually create your own unique music based entirely on the placement of these pieces. Your goal is to cover the entire game board in a designated amount of time by fitting quads of blocks together.
Gameplay
Every board in Chime Super Deluxe has its own music. Every move that you make adds some type of musical element to your soundtrack that you’re creating which means that you can play the game over and over again and always come up with a different song. What’s interesting about the game is that as gameplay becomes more difficult, the music also gets quite complex.
This is a game that may be easy to play but it’s certainly no walk in the park to master. If you think you couldn’t really get into a puzzle game since there’s no battle scenes or blowing anything up, you should know this one is addictive. You may even find yourself losing a little sleep trying to beat a high score.
To play Chime Super Deluxe, you have to place blocks that are irregular-shaped on a grid, one at a time to form quads. Each quad earns you a set number of points and helps to fill the grid. Your goal is to fill the entire grid before you run out of time. When you cover the grid 100 percent, it clears and resets with a new one.
Chime Super Deluxe offers Co-op mode, perfect for late night sessions online with friends or you can try Versus mode where players work against one another, stealing quads as necessary. There’s also an offline Mulitplayer mode, allowing gamers to play collaboratively.
Graphics
Graphics have significantly improved with Chime Super Deluxe. While the first game was great, graphics weren’t nearly as sharp as they could have been which was tiresome on the eyes. This game is sharp and elegant with a semi-translucent and glassy finish on the blocks. There’s also new grid colors, effects and lighting to enhance the experience.
Although the graphics have had a major overhaul and you’ll probably be hypnotized by the multitude of changing colors, the music is really what will get you hooked on the game. The graphics may get there but the soundtrack that you create will keep you coming back for more.
Conclusion
Chime Super Deluxe is not just another puzzle game that will make your eyes dry from not blinking for so long. Yes, you probably will need eye drops handy but the good news is that you won’t have to put your television on mute to get rid of the annoying background music that typically comes along with puzzle games. Although the price is double what you probably played for the original, there’s twice as many tracks and many more features to offset the cost.
