WSC Real 2011 PS3 Review
If you love lining up and sinking that perfect shot, you’re really going to be in for a special treat with WSC Real 2011 for PS3. Never has the game of snooker been so real so don’t worry if you can’t fit a massive 12′ x 6′ table in your house, this game puts you right in the action of the tournaments. If you’re unfamiliar with what snooker is, it’s similar to pool only played on a much larger platform.
Storyline
While Ronnie O’Sullivan is the official face of WSC Real 2011, you’ll notice that aside from a few appearances in cut scenes and being on the cover, the game really has little to do with him at all. The storyline is pretty basic, you play through qualifying stages with the goal of winning to earn a trophy in that event and to level up. Your ultimate goal of course is to win this tournament.
Gameplay
Gameplay is exceptional in WSC Real 2011, Dark Energy Sports used real tournaments and faces so you’ll recognize players like Steve Davis to make you feel right in the middle of the action. The first thing you will fall in love with is the menu, it’s super easy to navigate without delaying your game.
USC Real 2011 doesn’t just give you a preview of where your ball will go according to your alignment, it also shows you approximately where your cue ball is going to end up as a result. This really helps improve your breaking skills. Now, the game also features a rewind feature which you will either appreciate or absolutely hate in which case you don’t have to use it. Basically, after you make contact with the ball, if it appears as though you’re going to miss your shot, you simply rewind and tweak your shot. This is a great feature for those who are new to the game but veterans may feel as though this is cheating and opt to not use it.
Career mode lets you create your own character but don’t get too excited because the character creation is dreadful. Fortunately, you don’t have to look at yourself all that often. You may also find yourself putting the commentary on mute. It is interesting in the beginning and then rapidly grows to a high annoyance level. There’s a lot of repetition in it that will definitely take away from the game if you’re forced to listen to it the entire time.
Graphics
The graphics in WSC Real 2011 are exceptional in some areas and more than lacking in others. The colors are vibrant and clear, small things are thoughtfully detailed like the guy’s striped shirt in the third row in the crowd or the smudged wood around the table. However, characters look more like zombies with a dead-like appearance which is a bit distracting and disappointing.
If you have a good eye and you’re familiar with the sport, watch out for a few typos, one is a player’s name on a trophy. It’s careless mistakes like these that are responsible for bringing a game that could be labeled great, even borderline excellent down to a mediocre or fine rating.
Conclusion
WSC Real 2011 can be an enjoyable game if you can overlook a few errors and turn the volume off on your television. The rewind feature really makes it accessible for those new to snookers and the convenient menu really is a welcome compliment to the game. If you love snookers and follow the tournaments, you probably will enjoy WSC Real 2011, otherwise it may just feel like some random half-grade billiards game.
