If you’re one of the hordes of individuals that played and loved every minute of the original Goldeneye (N64) you’ll love everything about 007: Goldeneye Reloaded. As its name implies, reloaded is indeed a remake or rather, re-imagining of the original game. However, this isn’t to say that it is simply an HD re-skinning; no, this is an entirely new game that builds upon everything we loved (or continue to love) about the original, but built a new with new technology, for a new age.
When you begin playing Goldeneye reloaded you’ll quickly realize that nothing remains of the original missions or locales; even the characters have changed. This is truly a Goldeneye placed in a modern setting. While many of its FPS brethren are extremely flashy and heavy handed, Goldeneye reloaded plays out like an action / stealth game. Additionally, reloaded is highly customizable as well, which was also a staple of its Rare-developed predecessor.
All in all, Goldeneye Reloaded plays out like a current-gen version of a game trying to hearken back to the golden days when first person shooters were still a relatively new thing for consoles. Gamers that are accustomed to the top-tier first person shooters will probably want to avoid this one due given that their gaming expectations are probably far in excess of what can be delivered in this package. However, this isn’t to say that Goldeneye Reloaded is a poor game, in all actuality it’s a fantastic game with a great story, features and multiplayer; if it had been released several years ago, it would be a major contender.
The bottom line is that if you’re a fan of the Bond movies or perhaps the original game, you’ll love this one; however, if you’re expecting a revolutionary experience, you’ll be extremely disappointed.
