Needless to say, 2012 has been a great year for gamers. The last several months in particular have played host to some major title releases; franchises have cemented their importance, and new powerhouse series have been introduced. Sure, there have been some disappointments too, you can’t win them all. Some games (many of which have been hyped for years now) and were supposed to hit store shelves didn’t come as quickly as expected. However, this only gives us something to look forward to in 2013, doesn’t it? Rest assured; there are some pretty incredible games headed your way in 2013. As always, the older franchises are rebooting, some are being born and others are expanding on their winning formulas.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s explore some of the most highly anticipated PS3 games with are (allegedly or supposedly) headed your way in 2013:
Bioshock Infinite
Trading submerged cities for the floating variety, the upcoming installment from the Bioshock franchise is poised to make waves. The plot is basically a twisted version of a typical private detective story, only replete with a hefty dose of science fiction. Along with new game options and gameplay mechanics, we are also being told that it will support the Playstation Move system.
Tomb Raider
The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot is a full-on gritty history lesson in why Lara Croft is such a badass. Unlike the previously released volumes of TR lore, this entry explores many different narratives simultaneously, with special focus on Lara’s vulnerabilities. Expect better graphics, mechanics, environments, enemies and puzzles. Word on the street is that this is going to be the best Tomb Raider game yet, and will satisfy long-time fans as well as those who are just discovering the series.
The Last of Us
“The Last of Us” is an upcoming apocalyptic-themed survival-shooter with stealth elements built in. The story hinges on a monumental outbreak that essentially led to the downfall of mankind. However, rather than placing you in the shoes of an insider, you take control of a couple of unassuming characters who are just trying to stay alive and traverse the country in search of a safe zone. This game isn’t simply about finding enemies to bring down; it’s more of an attempt to provide gamers with a more realistic and exciting survival experience.
Grand Theft Auto V
The release of any GTA title is cause for celebration, but (arguably) the upcoming 5th installment is the most highly anticipated release because of the various improvements which Rockstar is including. That’s right, if you though IV was immersive, then you haven’t seen anything yet. GTAV is set in Los Santos, and is set to push the envelope in several new ways whether it is in terms of graphics, gameplay or storytelling.
God of War: Ascension
First off, all of the God of War games are incredible, so it’s safe to assume that this one will be as well. Where other developers tend to go off their mark after a few games, Sony and SCE studies is giving gamers more of what they love with this upcoming (and highly venerated) title.
Dead Space 3
The third installment of the Dead Space series finds our hero, Isaac Clarke venturing to the very source of the necromorph scourge, seeking to put an end to them once and for all. Word has it that you’ll face tougher environments and enemies this around, but you’ll also be able to tackle the game in co-operative mode, which is very promising.
Crysis 3
Expanding upon the success of Crysis 2, part 3 finds our hero ‘Prophet’ returning once more to exact retribution upon Cell Corporation and their attempt to install themselves as governing overlords. Throughout the course of this game, players will become the most feared hunter on Earth. Whether you are facing alien or human enemies, your goal is to right the wrongs and help save the planet from enemies both foreign and domestic.
PC Gamers
It should be noted that if you’re a PC gamer then many of these games will be available as pc games download.
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist
In this upcoming installment, Fischer is back and moving from Third Echelon to Fourth. He is tasked in dealing with arguably his greatest threat so far, a terror-plot called ‘blacklist’ which involves increasingly destructive terrorist attacks. As you might expect, the only person who can really deal with this threat is Sam, who now answers directly to the president.
DmC
The Devil May Cry series is getting a reboot with DmC; and the good news is that it’s pretty much everything a fan of the series could want and more. You play as Dante, a dualistic character who is (in all reality) neither good nor evil. The most stunning change with this title/series is the various graphical improvements. Expect even more involved, brutal and interesting gameplay than what was experienced with earlier releases.
