Would you believe that Sony is still making a loss on every PS3 console sold? It’s true. Sales of the console have been on the increase, however, Sony lose around £15 per unit sold. It’s not uncommon for companies to lose money initially on console sales, however, Sony’s losses have carried on since the consoles launch.
Sony is now looking to cut their hardware sale loses, with plans to cut PS3 production costs by 15% before March 2011. It should be noted that estimates suggest that Sony were actually losing nearly £30 a unit previously. Therefore they seem to be on track if they are losing only half of that figure today and certainly looks positive that the PS3 will turn far more profitable in the near future.
